We realized that while our city is historic, the way we build doesn't have to be stuck in the past.

• Observe and Interact: Before we pick up a hammer, we look at the land. We study the Virginia sun angles for solar gain, the drainage patterns of our local clay soil, and the way the breeze moves through the Fan or North Side. We design for this place, not a template.

• Produce No Waste: Richmond is full of history. Whenever possible, we prioritize deconstruction over demolition, salvaging existing structure to keep the "bones" of our city out of the landfill. In our world, waste is just an unused resource.
